Kate van Wezel

PhD Candidate

Kate is a PhD candidate at the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods, working under the supervision of Prof. Jeremy Russell-Smith (Charles Darwin University), Dr. Sean Kerins (Australian National University), and Prof. Sue Jackson (Griffith University). Kate became passionate about supporting Aboriginal Australian women caring for Country through both her research, and her experience working at the Northern Land Council, facilitating women’s participation in Indigenous Protected Area and Ranger programs throughout the Top End. She is committed to a participatory and critical approach to research, and draws on feminist and settler colonial studies in her work. She holds a Master of Science (Conservation Biology) from the University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
